He was born on Dec. 4, 1937, the son of Elster "Butch" Roberts and Melster Newsome Roberts, who preceded him in death. His sons, Elster Dean Roberts Jr., Steven Howard Roberts and James Kevin Roberts also preceded him in death.
Dr. Roberts served in the U.S. Navy, was board certified in family medical practice and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Survivors include his son Jonathan Christopher (Monica) Roberts of Atlanta; Georgia and three grandchildren: Laura Ann Roberts, Elizabeth Andreea Roberts and Diana Paige Roberts.
Funeral services were held April 2 at J.W. Call Funeral Home, Pikeville, with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Newsome Cemetery, Pikeville.
